Frequently asked questions

What will it feel like doing an internship in Glasgow?

Glasgow has been named the Friendliest CIty in the World several times (Rough Guide 2014 and 2021, Time Out 2022, Condé Nast 2024 (friendliest in the UK). We're also a UNESCO City of Music, have lots of street art, lots of amazing architecture, free museums and several free tours, and loads of festivals, many free. There's a great sense of community and welcome, and the people of Glasgow are good fun.
Plus, since our host employers are generally nonprofits, you'll be doing something good in the world while you work. 💜

Why do you use host families for accommodation?

Our host families are kind and welcoming people who want to give you a great experience of Glasgow. By staying with them, you get to live like a local. You have someone to share news of your day with over dinner, give you tips and get to know. Students love staying with our host families because they're such lovely people.

Do I need a visa to do an internship in Glasgow?

It depends on which kind of passport you have, what you would like to work with and how long an internship you're looking for.

If you're doing an internship up to six weeks with one of our many non-profit host employers and you're from one of the countries where you don't need to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa, then you don't need a visa.

If your passport is from the EU, EEA, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Japan, you don't need to apply for a visa under the conditions above. If you're from somewhere else, check this link and choose "tourism, visiting family or friends" in answer to the second question, and it will lead you to the right place and let you know.

If you're looking for a longer internship, there are different routes, and you would probably need an agency's support for that.

If you have UK citizenship, you can work anywhere for as long as you like.

How do I book an internship?

If you're in Europe and your school or university has Erasmus+ funding, speak to the Erasmus+ organiser and they can help you sign up and get all your expenses paid.

If you're from another country, you might want to go through an agency. We can put you in touch with one. :)
